Insulation glass units

image

With the exception of Elit Tradition 1+1 all Elitfönster's windows contain insulation glass units, ie two or three glass panes joined together with a distance profile between, either triple glazed units or in some cases double glazed units. You can also choose glass on most window types that will further improve the window's insulating ability (lower U-value) and thus save energy.

Elit Complete Alu can, for example as an option, be manufactured with U-value from 1.0 to 1.3. Default U-value at our retailers for Elit Complete Alu is 1.1.

Privacy glass

Privacy glass is pleasant in some rooms. The most common location is in the bathroom, but in an urban area the need may be larger.   Privacy glass is available in the following row types:

  • Marin, also known as raw glass. Default for privacy.
  • Cotswold
  • Etched
See examples in the palette to the left.

Solar control glass

Ample glass in sunny situations, the heat indoors can quickly become difficult during the warm season of the year. Choosing a window with solar heat reduction glass can then be a good idea.

We can offer solar control glass that lets in almost as much light as regular glass but blocks out almost two-thirds of the total solar heat. A solar control glass reduces the need for cooling and provides a more comfortable indoor climate.

Solar control glass are available in the following types:

  • Standard - Stop Ray Elit. Daylight transmittance 62% (very little loss of daylight). Solar heat radiation 35%. Suitable for villas and houses.
  • Plus - Stop Ray Safir. Daylight transmittance 57% (moderate loss of daylight). Solar heat radiation 31%. Suitable for larger windows and windows in homes and offices.
  • Super - Stop Ray Vison. Daylight transmittance 49% (significant loss of daylight). Solar heat radiation 28%. Recommended when the need for shielding is very large.

See examples in the palette to the left.

Selfcleaning glass

Self-cleaning glass glass makes window cleaning much easier. The special surface of the glass dissolves the dirt by sunlight. When it rains, the dirt just slides off. Sun- and rainexposed window locations might mean that you need not clean at all. For more protected  window locations the glass may need to be hosed down with a hose occasionally.

Safety/Security glass

Personal Safety reduces or prevents the risk of injury if the glass would be crushed. Safety glass can be laminated so that the shattered glass is left hanging (Class 2 (B) 2), or hardened so that the glass is shattered with rounded edges (Class 1 (B) 2). The position of  the safety glass is on the interior or the exterior, or on both sides of the insulation glass unit.

From 1 July 2008, new BBR (Building Regulations) are valid. The regulatory framework includes guidelines for requirements for personal safety for certain types of glazed walls and patio doors in homes.

For residential properties, with glass surfaces located closer than 0.6 m from the floor or ground area, require safety glass. In other places apart from housing where children can be present, with glass surfaces located closer than 0.8 m from the floor or ground area, require safety glass. The glass must meet the requirement for 2(B)2, 1(C)2 which means that they must be of laminated or toughened. Responsibility for compliance with BBR is put on the developer.

Personal Safety glass can be chosen as an option at extra cost, for Elit Complete Alu, Elit Complete Wood and Elit Passiv. Choose from laminated glass 2(B)2 or toughened glass 1(C)2 which is placed inside and / or outside depending on the requirements. Elit Extreme has also certain types of personal safety glass as an option at extra cost. For more information, contact Elitfönster's retailers.
